Description: Sangat Island Reserve is situated in Palawan, the Philippines Western-most province (see map) and closer to Sabah, Malaysia than many of the Philippines main islands. Palawanis known for its pristine beauty, natural attractions and mystic appeal. It is the habitat of numerous unique species of terrestrial and marine flora and fauna which are endemic only to the island province. Its vast dipterocarp forests are home to the Philippine eagle, talking mynahs, the Palawan peacock pheasant, the Philippine cockatoo, the diminutive mousedeer, among others. Calauit Island in the Calamianes group, established as a private refuge ground for imported animal species from Africa, adds to the already rich diversity of the regions life-forms.
